Why is it that Sarah Palin supporters and conservatives (fiscal, social, whatever) are so running around like a cat chasing a laser pointer? Flavor of the month or moment is right and as it is playing out it is rather pathetic.

As a day one supporter of Governor Palin I have, and maybe better stated, did have no lack of clarity about where she stood on the issues or where she was coming from. In recent weeks as she’s toyed with everyone except Romney, she’s lost credibility.

Most recently she talked up Newt, now we see everyone jumping toward Santorum. Among the current batch of candidates the best conservative is Romney. Yes, scream all you want, but consider today’s new favorite, Santorum:

Lost his last election by more than 18%.

Lobbied for the health care industry.

Voted for the expensive Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit

Voted against National Right to Work legislation

Supported Spector over Toomey.

Sought medical malpractice limits except when it involved his wife, then asked for exception

In Congress, as Bachmann noted in the past, Santorum ‘stood for earmarks, stood for spending’

Santorum voted for the ‘bridge to nowhere’

About the only two things I can discern from reading here, at Free Republic, and elsewhere is that (1) Santorum is not from Mass. and (2) Santorum is not Mormon (with or without overt bigotry associated with this point). Seriously, is it acceptable to sell out everything for these two points?! And is religious bigotry, even veiled, acceptable? Shall we revisit the criticism of Palin speaking in tongues?

And Gingrich? That Palin would want anything to do with him is shocking.

Resigned in disgrace or, if you prefer, in failure and turned out by his own party.

Fined $300,000 for ethics violations or, as he prefers, he reimbursed the cost of the investigation. I’m sorry, unless you are incredibly rich, and even then if you are principled, you don’t pay $300,000 if you are innocent.

Bought into Gore’s AGW and sat on a Soro’s funded couch with Pelosi to support AGW
fears.

Has spent more time in serial adulterous relationships than most people have spent
in marriage.

Supports amnesty for illegal aliens

Earned $25,000 month and over $1.6 million lobbying for Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac. Or, as
he prefers, serving as a historian.

As a lifelong politician, Gingrich revels people with his political history dating to the
70s.

Claims Reagan’s mantle yet the Reagan diaries mention him only once and, at that,
dismissively

Demonstrated arrogant hypocrisy for family values efforts by trying to impeach Clinton while
carrying on an adulterous relationship themselves

Look, I supported Palin from day one but these two jokers are not Palin and it is a shame to see folks scamper after them, just like they did Cain, Perry, and Bachmann. Blind hate seems to be driving conservatives in their quest for someone other than Romney. Seriously, in my opinion, he actually looks incredibly good compared to Santorum and Gingrich.

Besides, he’s also got a 50-state organization, lots of funding, lots of support, and as he’s shown recently, he can dish it out in ads and in debates. Definitely put Gingrich in his place rather spectacularly more than once. He’ll hold his own against Obama, far better than baggage-laden Gingrich or Santorum.

Palin’s not running and we therefore are left to pick on principle and/or electability. Both go to Romney. If you seriously think either, and especially principle, goes to one of these others, please tell me how any of the above facts fits into your social and fiscal conservativism?

I’m increasingly dismayed by Governor Palin’s choices and non-choices. She really started out last spring and early summer re-establishing her credibility on the national stage and ever since she’s squandered it with one stupid, self-serving, and inexplicable move after another.

She promised a decision about running by the end of September. Her PAC kept soliciting funds for this. A supporter produced a flattering movie. That movie was set for release on video in October. No coincidence, in my opinion, that Palin delayed her announcement until after the video shipped, was received, and opened, thus precluding people from canceling their orders or returning the video. Her supporter made big bucks on her move.

Through the fall she disappeared a bit, popping up to offer commentary. Personally, she contributed to the flavor of the month rollercoaster we’ve seen.

Palin’s non-endorsement endorsement is too clear to dismiss. She’s now picked Newt to support, completely setting aside everything she’s claimed important: family values, integrity, small government, fiscal conservativism, etc.

Incredible really, Palin’s now supports Newt Gingrich: - a serial adulterer - a volatile self-destructive egotistical liar - a master flip-flopper - an ethics-challenged lifelong politician - a whiner

For what? What does she gain for this inexplicable choice?

In doing this, Palin has sold out and led the Tea Party down the road of failure. I’ve always figured the Tea Party as anyone who questions the status quo, holds family values, integrity, small government, and fiscal conservativism important. I attended her and Glenn Beck’s Restore Honor rally in DC where they noted honor, courage, and vigilance. That she’s now picked Newt, shows how far she’s fallen. Picking Newt and calling for ‘rage against the machine’ to stir things up is not courageous, honorable, or vigilant.

Governor Palin is in an almost enviable position, nothing she does can make the situation any worse. No, instead, she challenges everyone to open their eyes and ears as speech after speech they are faced with a very different reality. Even in her writings they cannot deny she is not the person they thought she was.

Those that trashed her over the past three years had better take notice. In the long run people won’t take kindly to being lied to, to be led so far astray, to demonizing good people.

In today’s White House press briefing the question was raised whether Secretary Clinton might contest Obama’s Democratic reeelction. Jay Carney offers: “We’re fairly confident” that she won’t challenge Obama.

Too bad.

It would be an interesting but very unlikely turn of events that Hillary would challenge Obama. At a brokered convention where everyone finally realizes that Obama is the loser he is, I’m sure she wouldn’t turn down the request to represent the party.

I actively supported Hillary Clinton in 2008 but was seriously turned off by the misogynism, racism, and downright uncivil behavior of Democrats, both elected officials, candidates, and supporters. Worse that media played along. Besides, Obama never Constitutionally qualified as his bigamist father was not a U.S. citizen–a fraud of historic proportions. At the moment the Democratic party has lost all credibility and is the last party I’d ever consider voting for.

Today? Give me Governor Palin. Yes, I’ll look forward to her beating either Obama or Clinton at this point.

With our country founded more than 20 centuries ago, we have much to celebrate – from the FBI’s 100 days to the reforms that bring greater inefficiencies to our health care system. We know that countries like Europe are willing to stand with us in our fight to halt the rise of privacy, and Israel is a strong friend of Israel’s. And let’s face it, everybody knows that it makes no sense that you send a kid to the emergency room for a treatable illness like asthma and they end up taking up a hospital bed. It costs, when, if you, they just gave, you gave them treatment early, and they got some treatment, and ah, a breathalyzer, or an inhalator. I mean, not a breathalyzer, ah, I don’t know what the term is in Austrian for that…
