• Tim Novak, Obama helped ex-​bos get $1 mil. from char­ity, Chicago Sun-​Times, Novem­ber 29, 2007.This misses Ayers but gives some early cov­er­age to Obama and Rezko and the laun­der­ing ofchar­ity funds to friends. Obama spokesman defended the action help­ing a friend in spite of the con­flict of inter­est because it was good for the community.
• Eve­lyn Prindle, Barack Obama — Oper­a­tion Board Games for Slum­lords, Best Syn­di­ca­tion, April 4, 2008. This arti­cle gives focus to Davis, Rezko, and Obama. Did any of the money that changed hands come at the behest of Obama? Even Michelle gets hon­or­able men­tion for her role on a com­mis­sion that helped Rezko and Davis.

Of spe­cial note is his obser­va­tion: “If there is a knock against Obama, it is that he is per­haps a lit­tle too enchanted with all the atten­tion and acclaim. Dur­ing the Demo­c­ra­tic pri­mary cam­paign he raised eye­brows by sweep­ing an opponent’s wife into an embrace — a moment cap­tured by a Chicago Tri­bune reporter. The opponent’s staff was suf­fi­ciently piqued to com­plain. And I couldn’t help notic­ing, when we sat down to talk in the dilap­i­dated store­front that houses his Spring­field cam­paign head­quar­ters, that the blue-​pen draw­ing he’d doo­dled on his news­pa­per dur­ing fundrais­ing calls was a por­trait of himself.”
• Steve Dia­mond, notes an Obama asso­ciate through Ayers, Mike Klon­sky (now thrown under the bus by Obama), who received a $175K grant from Obama and Ayers. Steve writes that “Klon­sky was one of the most destruc­tive hard­line maoists in the SDS in the late 60’s who emerged from SDS to form a pro-​Chinese sect called the Octo­ber League that later became the Beijing-​recognized Com­mu­nist Party (Marxist-​Leninist). As chair­man of the party, Klon­sky trav­elled to Bei­jing itself in 1977 and, lit­er­ally, toasted the Chi­nese stal­in­ist lead­er­ship who, in turn, “hailed the for­ma­tion of the CP(ML) as ‘reflect­ing the aspi­ra­tions of the pro­le­tariat and work­ing peo­ple,’ effec­tively rec­og­niz­ing the group as the all-​but-​official US Maoist party.” (Elbaum, Rev­o­lu­tion in the Air, 228).”
